Additional information

Quantitative velocity measurements inside an impacting drop, and visualisation of polymer molecules near the drop edge using DNA, showed why polymer additives prevent water droplets from bouncing on hydrophobic surfaces. The paper led to an invited review for “Advances in Colloid and Interface Science” (evidence file Bertola1-1.pdf) and a co-supervised/funded PhD project on polymer dynamics with the Institute for High Performance Computing, AStar, Singapore (evidence file Bertola1-2.pdf).
