Additional information

This book results from work undertaken through an EPSRC Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre of which Cooper was a Co-Director; the Salford Centre for Research and Innovation. The book presents findings from empirical research looking at how influential leaders in design and construction consider and influence the future.

A series of in-depth interviews were conducted with high profile figures drawn from a wide range of stakeholder groups including architects, client organisations, consultants, contractors, developers, lobby groups, policy makers. 15 influential figures were interviewed from Sir Michael Latham to Wayne Hemmingway and Kevin McLoud. The authors juxtapose the interviewee’s views with their own examination of mainstream design and construction management theory, combining practical insights with an exploration of key theoretical concepts. This conceptualisation against current theory results in new notions of creativity, leadership and futures thinking, and thus contributes to both practice and theory.
