Additional information
The paper applies, for the first time, enzymatic surface functionalization to macroporous glass-ceramic scaffolds, and demonstrates in vitro that this has a positive effect on mineralisation. This work will be further applied to development of tissue engineering substrates through ongoing research projects: the £5.5M Arthritis Research UK Tissue Engineering Centre (Arthritis Research UK Award 19429' Newcastke award £950k), and the €4M RESTORATION FP7 project (280575; Newcastle award €700k).
