Additional information

<23>This paper describes cross-disciplinary work resulting from international collaboration with Haindl’s group, Czech Academy of Sciences. Filip was visiting Heriot-Watt on a prestigious two-year Marie-Curie fellowship, and this collaboration with Chantler led to the first use of rigorous psychophysical experiments to develop a metric for Bidirectional Reflectance Functions) fidelity estimation. The work in this paper was further developed by Filip and Chantler, in part while following a second fellowship (EC Marie-Curie European Reintegration Grant No 239294, 2010-2012), and this body of work is now a significant part of the advanced textbook “Visual Texture”, Springer, 2013.
