Significance of output:

Reporting directly to DECC and the Scottish Executive this study assessed the performance of pole mounted microwind turbines and their market potential across the UK (news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8139373.stm). The study was extended at DECC’s request to contribute to the DECC 2050 Future Energy Scenarios (www.decc.gov.uk/assets/decc/what%20we%20do/a%20low%20carbon%20uk/2050/216-2050-pathways-analysis-report.pdf)

This paper and the report shows that pole mounted microwind, particularly on agricultural farms, is a key future market. Following publication of the supporting public report of this study (www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Publications2/Generate-your-own-energy/Location-location-location-domestic-small-scale-wind-field-trial-report) the industry shifted fundamentally away from building mounted to pole mounted turbines (page4, http://www.bwea.com/pdf/publications/RenewableUK_SMWMarketReport2012.pdf). Project stakeholders included British Gas, DEFRA, B&Q, Carbon Trust and UK power companies.
