Pseudotumour formation due to tribocorrosion at the taper interface of large diameter metal on polymer modular total hip replacements
Significance of output:
This study presented failure analysis of two metal on polymer devices that had failed due to metal sensitivity reactions within the patients. The study was the first to present taper assessments from a RedLux Artificial Hip Joint Profiler in the literature, benefiting the company (reference Christian Maul C.Maul@redlux.net). It also highlighted to the orthopaedic community the risk of adverse tissue reactions with this joint design, which would not normally be considered at risk. Aspects of this work were featured on BBC radio Solent and BBC South Today on the 19th of February 2013.
