Comparing flexural behaviour of Fibre - Cement Composites reinforced baggasse, wheat and eucalyptus
This paper outlines research which led to patent: “Method and material for manufacturing fiber cement board”, IPC8Class: AC08K334FI, number 20100234491, http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100234491#ixzz1KAs2S36Q. It was funded by Building and Housing Research Centre of Iran (2009-£58,000) and was designed to find suitable asbestos replacement fibres in cement board production. Asbestos can only be replaced by combining synthetic and cellulose fibres and the fibres must be compatible with the Hatcheck process. As a result of this research, the Iranian government has banned asbestos use in cement board and have required factories to amend their production line to non-asbestos production. This saves 20,000 lives annually.
