Additional information

It is not clear why some foot pathologies are associated with specific foot types. This paper shows that the high-arched, flat and normal-arched feet exhibited significantly different measures of foot structure and function. The underlying study was funded by the U.S. National Institute of Health ($187,914, 1R03HD053135-01) and was disseminated at major international conferences (GCMAS 2013; ASB 2010; ESEM 2012; I-FAB 2010). This study led to further grants to validate our first metatarsophalangeal joint computational model and to evaluate different surgical techniques (Hospital for Special Surgery Foot and Ankle Research Fund-$60k; BOFAS-£5k).
