Electrodeposition of Sn–Fe alloys using gluconate electrolytes and X-ray diffractometry and Mössbauer studies of the deposits
Sn–Fe alloys are non-equilibrium and thermodynamically metastable and cannot be thermally prepared. These alloys often give rise to a range of different structures and properties from those thermally prepared. The research team at GCU was eager to develop environmentally acceptable electrolyte for the deposition of Sn–Fe alloys and to study the effects of the plating parameters on the phase composition and structure of deposits. This paper demonstrate, for the first time, of possible deposition of amorphous Sn–Fe alloys leading to the start of a series of papers dealing with potential applications in energy storage.
