Double-weighted statement

This study of the multiple manifestations (videos, books, CDs) of Godard’s magnum opus, Histoire(s) du cinéma (1988-1999), is the culmination of fifteen years of research. Six months of intensive data collection in Paris were followed by extensive further archival investigation at the BL and BFI of the hundreds of films, books and artworks he cites. The book interrogates Godard’s monumental project in relation to his overall œuvre (150 works); to all relevant literature in English and French (dozens of monographs, hundreds of articles); to antecedent multimedia historians; and to the key thinkers on whom he draws (Péguy, Benjamin, Malraux, Braudel).
