Barbara Torelli Benedetti, Partenia, a pastoral play. A bilingual edition edited with notes and translation

The Other Voice's edition of Barbara Torelli's pastoral drama Partenia (c.1586) is the first ever print edition of the earliest secular play by an Italian woman. It was believed lost until the early twentieth century, when the first manuscript of it surfaced in Cremona. The editors' introduction, the fruit of intensive archival research, contains much new information on Torelli and her intellectual context in Parma, and locates Partenia within the traditions of pastoral drama and of late-Renaissance Italian literature as a whole.
