A radiant heating wire mesh single-particle biomass combustion apparatus
To match suspension firing conditions in full-scale power plants, an improved apparatus was developed that allowed representative and rapid assessment of individual biomass fuel particle combustion. Clear particle mass effects, largely independent of biomass type, were observed that could not have been identified in bulk sample tests. Follow-on work is included in a £600k collaborative project with the Universities of Leeds and Manchester co-funded by the UK CCS Research Centre after an independently-reviewed competition for funding (http://www.ukccsrc.ac.uk/centre-research/ukccsrc-call-i-rapid-research-projects) and the EPSRC Supergen Biomass Hub (m.pourkashanian@leeds.ac.uk) and also an EPSRC project on conventional power (EP/K02115X/1).
