Model predictive control for real-time tumour motion compensation in adaptive radiotherapy
Originating from the £90k TCS/KTP 3787 (awarded GRADE 1 and KTP Prize) and funded by the 4.5 year €7M MAESTRO EU project involving 25 partners (FP6/CE/LSHC/CT/2004/503564, this research co-ordinated by Haas within work-package 1, led to an invited presentation at the 27th ESTRO congress, 2008 (largest European Radiotherapy exhibition), introduced a novel radiotherapy application. The paper provides a rigorous derivation, evaluation and experimental verification of the overall control strategy. The research was demonstrated at University Hospital, Coventry and verified at Elekta Ltd, Crawley, (Dr Kevin Brown, Global VP Scientific Research, Kevin.Brown@elekta.com). It led to collaboration on the VERO prototype http://www.vero-sbrt.com/.
