Additional information

This paper culminates a 4 year study on the use of cheap microphones for foetal surveillance and the signal processing technique devised to do this with high accuracy, from which we anticipate development of a prototypical device. It deals with the complex process of repeatedly applying a complex algorithm to long streams of data. This is an important real-world problem, ensuring that complex algorithms can be reliably applied to real world data yielding meaningful results. This led to an invited Keynote speech at the 35th National Congress of the Mexican Biomedical Engineering, October 2012.
