Additional information

The manuscript summarises activities of the author at Humboldt University (Germany) and Lancaster University (UK) regarding understanding a relationship between improvement of signal-to-noise ratio (gain) and information flow via nonlinear systems. This publication as a stand-alone author helped the author to establish himself as an independent researcher and subsequently to secure EPSRC (EP/G070660/1, 2009-2013) funding as Principal Investigator in the joint project between Warwick and Lancaster Universities. This grant also supports research of PhD student (Mr S Cosseddu) supervised by Khovanov (PI).
