Double-weighted statement

This 80,000 word monograph was based upon six years of primary research in archives in Washington, New York, and Los Angeles, including a year’s sabbatical funded by a major research award. The data assembled for this project consisted of primary and published records of every major episode in which the Monroe Doctrine featured in the nineteenth-century. Furthermore, the secondary reading required for this project was vast and novel. The book brought together two large, but hitherto discrete, historiographies: those on the politics and the foreign relations of the United States in the nineteenth-century.
