Survey on the Nile Third Cataract, Sudan
This 439 page monograph draws together long-standing research based on overseas fieldwork in northern Sudan 1999-2005 and a longer collaboration linking British and Sudanese researchers over 15 years. Edwards authored and illustrated (960 figures/plates), 7 core discursive/analytical chapters (c.95,500 words), notwithstanding courtesy acknowledgments of field-collaborators; each chapter might form one or more significant journal articles. He also created, assembled and illustrated the 220 page (c.54,000 word) data section [all but 3 small specialist reports] – fulfilling a role commonly played by research assistants - with very significant time requirements (involving total commitment of c.80% research time within REF cycle).
