Geometric accuracy of a novel gimbals-based radiation therapy tumor tracking system
This research with Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussels established the good tracking capability of the VERO stereotactic body radiotherapy prototype (Brainlab/Mitsubishi). A new ‘radiation free’ method to evaluate radiotherapy equipment motion tracking capability was proposed. The research resulted in the first version of a tumour tracking solution using VERO, with 10 patients treated since 2012. Results from the work are published on the manufacturer’s web site http://www.vero-sbrt.com/, Richard Wohlgemuth, Senior Project Manager, richard.wohlgemuth@brainlab.com. The research led to the invitation to use of the MAESTRO phantom at Brainlab AG, Germany to evaluate X-ray tracking and the performance using different fiducial markers.
