Additional information

<06> This JSAC article is the outcome of several years of research in programmable networks, in which the authors are prime movers, and on recent work in the European Commission FET project ANA (Autonomic Network Architectures). It proposes and describes an information sensing system that correlates context data from many diverse sources and allows networks to be more flexible in adapting to changing conditions, such as those resulting from failures or attacks. The key insight is to enable awareness through an integrated event detection-correlation mechanism, which is much more lightweight than traditional active database-oriented event systems, and crucial for autonomic operation.
