Additional information

The authors challenge the very idea of Welshness and especially the concept of an ethnolinguistic Welsh identity. Here ‘class’ is resurrected as an organising concept and so a challenge is posed to much of the existing scholarship within Wales that has tended to subordinate issues of class to issues of linguistic identity. Here, too, respondent accounts are analysed in depth. In addition, however, the authors use Bourdieu’s work on the process of boundary construction and maintenance to make sense of their findings.
