Paper is important because it shows, for first time, how to measure in-plane rotations with single laser beam using "Continuous Scan" method [Ewins-1]. A new scanning head is presented that allows beam from laser-Doppler vibrometer to perform conical scan with specific angle of incidence at point on target. Hence, motion of target point in all 6 degrees of freedom (i.e. three translations and three rotations) can be measured. This has not been matched by any other contact-less measurement method. Technique is identified as research group highlight in REF5.
