Design data for footwear: Sweating distribution on the human foot
In cooperation with the University of Wollongong Australia, data relevant to footwear designers on sweat distribution across the human foot were brought together in this peer reviewed paper published in this specialist clothing Journal. Sweat distribution data provide designers with the information needed to decide what materials (in terms of moisture transport and absorption) to use in specific footwear sections.
Funding was provided by adidas innovation for the UK part of the work to further their physiological understanding that feeds in to clothing and footwear design. Sweat maps produced in this paper build on the long term research line of body mapping in the Environmental Ergonomics Research Centre where body temperature, sensitivity and sweat maps have been produced for the design of clothing and footwear for different target user groups.
