Additional information

This paper arose from the first author's EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship grant (EP/J002186/1). The paper develops a new method for solving the notoriously difficult problem of finding globally optimal parameters of traffic models. The paper shows that the proposed method finds the global optimum, provides good calibration results for real-life traffic flow, and performs better than the currently used methods. It has been cited in a recent textbook "Traffic Flow Dynamics" by Treiber and Kesting (2013) as ‘an important method for global traffic calibration problems’ (pp310-311), Springer, ISBN: 978-3-642-32459-8.
