A simple model of driver behaviour to sustain design and safety assessment of automated systems in automotive environments
This work was carried out in the EU integrated AIDE project (RG.TRAN.448347) led by Volvo Technology. It demonstrated that a predictive model of driver behaviour combining both behavioural (e.g. personality) and cognitive (e.g. workload) factors was viable as a tool for predicting driver speed choice. The model developed and tested here subsequently became the foundation for the cross-modal model of operator interaction with support systems in the EU ITERATE project (RG.TRAN.477722). The model has application both as an off-line prediction tool and in the future as the basis for real-time tuning of warning and support systems to driver and circumstance.
