Alkali activated solidification/stabilisation of air pollution control residues and co-fired pulverised fuel ash
This publication resulted from an EPSRC CASE award (Voucher No.: 07002463). The award was made by the "Resource Efficiency KTN" for work with Viridor Waste Management Ltd.
The advances have led to further research showing that studies of APC residue immobilisation are very much dependent upon the residue being treated and that chloride immobilisation remains problematic.
The student involved in the project, R. Shirley, is now a research fellow in the department and has applied the expertise gained in this project to inform research for the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency. The collaboration with Viridor Waste Management is on-going .
