Bayesian Spectral Estimation Applied to Echo Signals from Nonlinear Ultrasound Scatterers
This is the first application of Bayesian Spectral Estimation (BSE) in Ultrasound Contrast Agent (UCA) analysis. This inter-disciplinary collaboration with Medical Physics (EP/C523776/1) on Biologically Inspired Systems presents an analytical tool for characterising acoustic echo signals scattered from nonlinear UCAs. The BSE algorithm is able to detect, with high probability, pulses a third of the length of those detectable using Fourier analysis. Follow-up detailed comparative evaluations were undertaken with Diamantis et.al. (kd96@hw.ac.uk) in collaboration with the University of Patras (Greece). The BSE algorithm will find application in developing microvascular imaging in the clinic for targeting life threatening vascular-related diseased tissue.
