Double-weighted statement

A highly innovative and wide-ranging reappraisal of the importance of Aratus’s text in both Hellenistic astronomy and the longer-term development of western cosmology. Deals with materials over two millennia from Hellenistic Greece to Copernicus and the early modern period. Also textually extensive, drawing on many different genres, ancient and early modern, across this period (including poetry, philosophy, scholastic traditions, scholarship and science). Involved substantial collection and compilation of data (including appendix B) and makes available a large amount of material which was previously not readily accessible.
