Additional information

This work advances magnetic materials for mass information storage. In collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA, Seagate Technology, USA and STFC Magnetic Spectroscopy group, Chilton, work is described that develops a novel oxide thin films, where the oxide based grain boundary was explored to reduce grain size and inter-granular exchange coupling, and thus to increase the storage density. Based on this work, Seagate (Bin.Lu@seagate.com ) has optimised production procedures, and developed the Co80Pt20-Oxide based media, with suitable magnetic grain sizes and sufficiently exchange decoupled, for the perpendicular high density magnetic recording.
