Additional information

The understanding of turbulence, a phenomenon with infinite degrees of freedom, explained via reduction to a finite dimensional space for the first time in this paper, has since been exploited in turbulent fluid dynamics research by Prof Genta Kawara (Ann Rev Fluid Mech. 44, 203-225, 2012). My work showed how turbulence can be approached from laminar flow, via a sequence of bifurcations, in a unique way. The work contributed to award of EC grant (273kEuro – Marie Curie FP7 PEOPLE), offering potential savings in various applications (e.g. greenhouses). The work featured in the PRE journal cover illustration.
