Additional information

This paper describes the development of a new conceptual model and diagnostic tool. The conceptual model maps the linkage between manufacturing and maintenance strategy and contributes to new knowledge by defining the individual processes and links involved. The diagnostic tool provides senior managers in manufacturing companies with an audit tool to assess and analyse the status of their functional processes. It also advises the improvement activities that need to be carried out so that strategies can be successful. This paper forms part of a wider investigation into the impact on manufacturing performance of the linkage between manufacturing and maintenance strategy. The research was sponsored by the Regional Development Agency ‘One North East’ as part of the Engineering Fellows Programme.
