Additional information

This paper discusses the findings from empirical research at four North East of England manufacturing companies. The research identified a number of specific inhibitors and enablers of strategy which can be used by practitioners to pre-empt strategic failures and enhance the likelihood of strategic success. The work develops five generic areas; strategy, systems, people, leadership, and coherence for senior manager to focus on. This paper forms part of a wider investigation into the impact on manufacturing performance of the linkage between manufacturing and maintenance strategy. The research was sponsored by the Regional Development Agency ‘One North East’ as part of the Engineering Fellows Programme.
