Additional information

This paper presents a breakthrough technique for multi-scale modelling of strain-softening materials. This is based on fundamental considerations on interactions between scales, in particular on how to overcome the breakdown of the "separation of scales" principle. The work is attracting significant interest not only from the computational mechanics community but also from the geosystems and bone mechanics communities.
