This paper describes a new and industrially-viable method for preparing polymeric hollow stimulated-release drug delivery capsules, work which won the 2010 Materials Science Venture Prize and led to creating the spin-off company AtoCap Ltd. It has also led to a key patent (WO 2012/107760 A2) and four invited papers have been given by Edirisinghe on this theme worldwide including at the the World Nanomedicine Congress 2011. EPSRC has awarded a follow-on grant (EP/J01334X) for this research. Two further papers on extending this work have also being published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface (7(2010)S451 and 8(2011)451).
