Additional information

We report the invention of Solid Supported Evaporation (SSE) a new technology to isolate pharmaceutical intermediates in an inherently safe way avoiding both crystallisation and distillation. This resolves a significant problem in the development of new pharmaceutical entities: i.e. the first isolation of new chemical species. SSE gives a free flowing powder whilst requiring very little development and replaces total evaporation of the solvent which carries an inherent high risk of explosion. SSE has been applied in AstraZeneca at 20L scale and work in KTH (Brian.Whitlock@astrazeneca.com, Ake.Rasmuson@ul.ie) confirmed the invention’s generic nature.
