Significance of output:

This work, done in partnership with ScottishPower Renewables, tackled the neglected area of modelling the connection of SCIG wind turbines to the grid, in particular modelling the effect of the soft starter. Uniquely this paper presents experimental results of the operation of a soft starter over a few cycles, rather than the accepted timeframe of several seconds, which significantly alters the actual grid disturbance during connection, and is viewed as critical to higher resolution wind turbine/farm modelling.
