Nanoscale colour control: W–O graded coatings deposited by magnetron sputtering
Significance of output:
Novel deposition method, magnetron sputtering with reactive gas pulsing, was modified to deposit gradient metal/metal oxide layers. We devised two theoretical models to simulate growth of the film and their optical properties. The models were validated by experiments and used to calculate deposition parameters in order to produce required optical properties. The methods could be used to prepare optical filters or intrinsic-like colours and was patented in France - FR2905124 B1; I am co-inventor). This paper directly led to an invitation to successful FP7 project RADINTERFACES (NMP3-SL-2011- 263273, I am Co-I with 486 k€) using this method to produce multilayers.
