Significance of output:

In this study, for the first time, a high-fidelity numerical simulation method based on large eddy simulation was developed covering noise generation, propagation and radiation in a single sequence. The method was successful and has led to industry driven projects such as an FP7 CLEANSKY flap side edge project and industry-funded PhDs (nicolas.molin@airbus.com). The method is being used by the Airbus Noise Technology Centre (ANTC) to develop future contra rotating open rotor noise prediction code (thomas.node-langlois@airbus.com). This and other related papers ensured the success of ANTC, which has attracted £5M in funding from Airbus, EADS and FP7 since 2008.
