Significance of output:

On a typical passenger aircraft a 1kg reduction in weight saves $3,000 worth of fuel every year. So vehicles are becoming lighter to reduce fuel consumption, which inevitably increases the low frequency sound and vibration that could cause damage or disturb passengers in aircraft and cars. This paper describes the first integrated method of using inertial transducers, both as passive tuned mass dampers and also as actuators in active vibration control systems, saving significant weight by removing the need for passive dampers , in a collaborative project with Fiat Research (mauro.casella@crf.it) as part of the EU “Green City Car” project.
