Additional information

This paper presents measurements of residual stresses over the complete spatial range in a welded component used for high temperature applications. The techniques allowed realistic residual stress measurements near surface, and the results were used to assess the conservativeness of the standard defect evaluation codes such as R6. This project was performed with the support of EPSRC through the Supergen 2 programme, and in collaboration with power generation companies including Alstom Power Ltd, E.ON UK, Corus, QinetiQ, Rolls Royce plc, RWEnpower, Sermatech Ltd and Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd.
