Additional information

<26>Driven by a rapid decrease in printer cost, 3D printing has become much more widely available recently. There is an urgent need for technologies that simplify the process of model creation and model the properties of printers and materials. We present a technique to semi-automate the design of jointed objects. We highlight a strength of one form of 3D printing: the joints are pre-assembled. Such techniques could lead to reductions in manufacture costs across a range of application areas. This area is expanding rapidly, with multiple papers in the area at Siggraph in 2013.
