Significance of output:

This paper presented a novel modelling technique that made it possible for the first time to couple a full model of a floating-slab track with discontinuous slab to a model of an underground tunnel. The literature before this work had papers looking at tracks with continuous slabs coupled to a rigid foundation or tracks coupled to underground tunnels but for the case of continuous slabs only. The work made it possible to investigate the physics of the coupled model and reported extra resonance frequencies for the problem of ground-borne vibration associated with the free-free resonance of the discrete slabs.
