Significance of output:

This paper demonstrated the highly novel successful use of thick film devices in a commercially viable portable electronic tongue. This development resulted from a program of collaborative research from the first development of the sensors to their incorporation into arrays suitable for the monitoring of consumer water quality. The work has further stimulated international collaboration with staff exchanges between Valencia and Southampton (Dr Eduardo Garcia egarciab@eln.upv.es undertaking two highly successful secondments at Southampton) resulting in a very active programme of shared device fabrication, new materials development and the initiation of a new program of sensor surface studies at Valencia.
