Significance of output:

This paper, based on collaboration with a colleague in Beijing, deals with repair schemes for thin-walled structures such as those used in aircraft, ships and boats. The main emphasis here is assessing inspection intervals and predicting if and how much a structure has degraded in order to determine what maintenance needed. The application of this can be found in current work in collaboration with RNLI towards the life extension of the Severn class of lifeboats. Verification of this can be gauged from a public statement by the CEO of RNLI on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjT0sDl1ygs&list=UU63kOMam6uIR2il5tTRYRCA&index=16&feature=plpp_video
