Additional information

Although this book is based on published essays (1994-2005; Chapters 1/5/7/8 RAE2001), it contains significant new material and insights that constitute a substantive piece of research. The volume is prefaced by a new essay which addresses key issues in medieval archaeology and concludes with another unpublished paper on the relationship between material culture and text. Significantly, the arguments in each paper are enhanced, nuanced, and amended in light of recent disciplinary developments in a set of extended interpretative commentaries. The volume is therefore more than the sum of its parts, and is, in essence, a 'self-edited' book.
