Additional information

This is the first description of tumour heterogeneity in 18 F-FDG PET scans prior to treatment with chemoradiothrapy in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. The study shows that image heterogeneity parameters are better predictive (treatment response) and prognostic (progression-free and overall survival) biomarkers than those used routinely in PET imaging. This method is easily applied clinically and could be considered for stratification of patients within clinical trials, a goal of personalised medicine. This paper is published in one of the two leading journals in nuclear medicine.
