Additional information

<20> The experiment validates one of the most common techniques used for large graph visualization, namely aggregation methods. It provides a set of guidelines indicating when aggregation is useful in a human perceptual sense. Previously to this experiment, there were no formal human-computer experiments validating aggregation methods. This experiment is also presented and discussed in Purchase: "Experimental Human-Computer Interaction: A Practical Guide with Visual Examples" (CUP, 2012) when describing aspects of a methodology.
