Additional information

The opera for which this is the libretto was first performed at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), March 2010. Further performances followed in April 2012 in Nuremberg, Augsburg, Glasgow & Edinburgh. The libretto arose from collaboration with the composer, the text being written before the music, but after discussion with the composer, engaging with both verbal and musical modes of expressing emotional experience. It involved research into the numerous historical and literary accounts of the Kaspar Hauser story. Following initial composition of libretto and music, Dilys Rose worked also with the director and cast in rehearsal for the first production, to refine and develop the libretto for performance.
