Additional information

This is an example of an output that helps to maintain and extend the scholarly infrastructure for theatre studies. Working with Joanne Tompkins (University of Queensland, Brisbane), the researcher guest-edited this special issue of Contemporary Theatre Review. Birch and Tompkins developed the themes for the issue, which centres around the mobility turn in site-specific performance.

As the researcher explains in her editorial: ‘The authors in this collection explore how the action of moving from place to place invites a relational response to place, whether through walking, dancing or travelling on a tram’. A ‘documents’ section provides examples of relevant artistic research in this area.

This special issue picks up themes developed in Birch’s collection ‘Performing Site-Specific Theatre Politics, Place, Practice’, also co-edited with Tompkins (see Birch1).
