Novel Parallel Integration of Microfluidic Device Network for Emulsion Formation
The article describes the integration of massively parallel microfluidic devices for producing mono-dispersed emulsions. It represents very recent development of precision manufacturing and process intensification in chemical engineering research. Previous studies are limited to single and/or small networks of few devices. Integration of 180 micro fluidic devices is described in this work. Computational modelling and experimental validation of fluid flow in a single device and a large network have been applied to overcome the challenges in network design, fabrication and operation. The technology has attracted interest from pharmaceutical, foods and home-personal-care companies.
