Additional information

Catford identified B-17 as the topic of study, proposed the idea to use a proton removal reaction to reduce background, wrote the experimental proposal, was spokesperson for the experiment, and contributed to writing the paper. The experiment was led by Catford with collaborators at LPC Caen and was intended to underpin the thesis of Catford’s PhD student (Jones). Due to delays in scheduling, the analysis was eventually led by a PhD student at LPC, with Catford maintaining a close involvement. Catford first identified the techniques used for fitting and interpreting neutron-unbound states during a sabbatical visit to LPC.
